چکیده

Abstract In this study, a theoretical and numerical framework for simulating transcritical flows under variety of conditions interest aerospace propulsion applications is presented. A real-fluid multicomponent multiphase thermodynamic model, based on cubic equation state (EoS) vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) assumptions, presented to describe mixtures properties. The versatility model reported since it can represent at the same time supercritical states as well subcritical stable two-phase equilibrium, via homogeneous mixture approach. effect has evaluation thermophysical variables will be emphasized. From Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) point view, well-known challenges that arise with coupling between thermodynamics governing equations conditions, are addressed by comparing fully conservative (FC) quasi-conservative (QC) schemes, in context advection problem contact discontinuity.

On diffuse-interface modeling of high-pressure transcritical fuel sprays

At subcritical pressures, atomization devices in chemical-propulsion systems must ensure proper rupture of the liquid volume through aerodynamic shearing and homogeneous dispersion of the liquid droplets in the combustion chamber. The gas environment in the combustor is typically hot as a result of the heat released by chemical reactions, with part of its enthalpy being employed in vaporizing t...

Numerical computation of advection and diffusion on evolving diffuse interfaces

We propose a numerical method for computing transport and diffusion on a moving surface. The approach is based on a diffuse interface model in which a bulk diffusion–advection equation is solved on a layer of thickness ε containing the surface. The conserved quantity in the bulk domain is the concentration weighted by a density which vanishes on the boundary of the thin domain. Such a density a...

Interfaces and multicomponent fluids

Many important industrial problems involve flows with multiple constitutive components. Examples include extractors, separators, reactors, sprays, polymer blends, and microfluidic applications such as DNA analysis, and protein crystallization. Due to inherent nonlinearities, topological changes, and the complexity of dealing with unknown, active, and moving surfaces, multiphase flows are challe...

Modeling the melting of multicomponent systems: the case of MgSiO3 perovskite under lower mantle conditions

Knowledge of the melting properties of materials, especially at extreme pressure conditions, represents a long-standing scientific challenge. For instance, there is currently considerable uncertainty over the melting temperatures of the high-pressure mantle mineral, bridgmanite (MgSiO3-perovskite), with current estimates of the melting T at the base of the mantle ranging from 4800 K to 8000 K. ...
